Featuring Community Justice Program Executive Director Marielle Macher and Housing Law Fellow, Gabe Dell
Community Justice Project (CJP) advances housing justice across Pennsylvania through systemic litigation and advocacy, protecting low-income tenants, homeowners, and unhoused residents against mass displacement, unfair practices, and civil rights violations. At this community discussion, CJP Executive Director Marielle Macher and Housing Law Fellow Gabe Dell will discuss developments in the legal landscape surrounding homelessness following the U.S. Supreme Court's 2024 Grants Pass decision, which held that municipal bans on public camping do not violate the Eighth Amendment's prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment. The discussion will explore post-Grants Pass constitutional arguments regarding due process rights and the right to travel, while examining the everyday legal obstacles unhoused individuals face.
